How to fill an electronic cigarette?

Today's personal vaporizers (electronic cigarettes) use three fundamentally different design solutions related to the storage of liquid for electronic cigarettes. Based on the features of these structures, an appropriate method for their filling is proposed.

In devices where the supply of liquid is stored in a porous storage (usually a synthetic winterizer), liquid for electronic cigarettes is dropped directly into it. This also happens in the case of using traditional synthetic winterizer cartridges (510th, 901st, A and B formats, as well as the 701st cartridge).

In “liquid form”, the slurry is stored either in tanks (outwardly similar to synthetic winterizer cartridges, only without synthetic winterizer), or in tanks. The tanks are usually removed/separated from the evaporator. You can fill them either by removing the tank cover, or directly through the hole in it.

For example, a corresponding valve is provided, in it is necessary to unscrew the upper part of the tank and fill it from above, and in filling it is carried out with a bottle with a thin spout through the hole in the top cover of the tank.

If we are talking about a device with a “liquid chamber” (when the evaporation chamber itself is the place to store the liquid), then the liquid for electronic cigarettes is poured / dripped directly into it. Such devices usually use mouthpieces with a wide opening for instillation - they have a separate name "drip-type".

It should also be noted another "subspecies" of devices in which refilling liquid for electronic cigarettes occurs by direct instillation. Devices for use can be divided into two main categories: full-fledged devices with a liquid chamber, with an upper and lower non-spill, and the so-called “side-blowing” RDAs. The popularity of such devices with side airflow is explained simply - they are structurally simple, and it is easy to make them even for small manufacturers (more about the inferiority of such devices is written in the mentioned series of articles).

Since such devices, when carried and laid on their side, “leak” (liquid pours out through the airflow hole located on the side), users of such devices resort to tricks with wicks. They have to fill most of the space in the lower part of the evaporation chamber with long wicks - in this case, such wicks simultaneously act as both a spiral wick and a supply (essentially storage) wick. Or they resort to wicks from combustible materials not intended for vaping, in particular from cotton wool.

In such cases, these are no longer devices with a liquid chamber, but devices with a porous liquid storage. Accordingly, the filling of such vaporizers (electronic cigarettes) is carried out by instillation of liquid directly onto the coil wick.

How often to change the replaceable evaporative elements (“heads”)?

Vaporizer maintenance for electronic cigarettes

However, this period can (and even should;)) be extended. This is achieved by maintaining the evaporators.

Any (ANY!) evaporator requires maintenance. After all, it doesn’t bother anyone that you need to wash your hands, brush your teeth, and carry out other hygiene procedures. "Regular" cigarettes do not need to be serviced, because they are "disposable" - smoked and threw away the cigarette butt. The electronic cigarette is used for a long time. That's why it needs maintenance.

Maintenance involves rinsing the atomizer elements: e-liquid storage tank, evaporator element, mouthpieces/drip tips. Hot water is usually sufficient. To improve the result, it is advisable to use alcohol (put the parts washed in water in a container with alcohol and let them “soak” well there). Alcohol well dissolves the liquid that “clogged” the wicks, and also partially removes carbon deposits from the spiral. After soaking in alcohol, the device should be rinsed again in hot water and let dry thoroughly.

Washing itself is good. But for a better restoration of the characteristics of the evaporator, the spiral and wicks should be burned. Almost all evaporators provide access to the coil (in some it is necessary to remove the protective cap, in some it is necessary to pull out some other part - it is better to get acquainted with this in the reviews of the corresponding devices). When access to the spiral appears, we connect the evaporator to a power source and apply voltage. The coil is heated, during which the formed carbon deposits are removed. We burn until the spiral becomes “clean”. To clean the coil from burnt particles, you just need to blow well into the evaporator element from different sides.

If the design of the device provides for long wicks, it is advisable to burn them with a turbo lighter or burner. It is not advisable to use a "regular" lighter - soot will remain on the wick. Therefore, a turbo lighter or a specialized burner is used.

About battery life in power supplies

No matter what kind of power source our electronic cigarette is equipped with, there is a battery inside it. Any battery loses its original properties over time and during operation. There is nothing surprising. The same is observed in all familiar household appliances (the simplest example is mobile phones).

However, with regard to electronic cigarettes, additional factors must be taken into account.

The modes of operation of batteries in vaping are more “cruel”. In many cases (especially in varivolts and mechanical mods when using low resistance vaporizers), the battery is operated with increased current. From this, its degradation (loss of original properties and characteristics) occurs more intensively.

It should also be borne in mind that batteries of a smaller capacity lose their properties faster than more capacious ones.

Therefore, it is immediately worth considering batteries (which are replaceable for collapsible battery packs, which are non-collapsible power supplies) as consumables. Over time, they become unusable, for which you need to be prepared.

Very low-capacity batteries (up to 300 mAh) with an average intensity of use will last about 6 months. Batteries with a capacity of 650 - 1000 mAh will be in operation from a year to a year and a half. More capacious batteries will retain their operational properties without tangible losses for about two years, and possibly longer.

Do not forget that the "health" of batteries depends on the quality of the charger used (it is important that overcharging does not occur - this is harmful to batteries). But excessive discharge also shortens their service life. General rule It can be assumed that for lithium batteries, the maximum allowable charge is 4.2 V, the minimum discharge level is 2.9 V.

It is more convenient for a beginner to use power supplies with electronics. Which, in addition to providing a stable voltage (or even the ability to adjust it), most often protect batteries from excessive discharge (the electronics stop supplying voltage).

Notes:

Evaporator replacement

To unlock the safety lock, press the cover and unscrew it. To replace the evaporator, unscrew it and replace it with a new one, or clean and reinstall the previously used evaporator. (Note: Do not wash the evaporator with water! Simply wipe it with an alcohol-soaked or dry cloth).

Disabling or changing the color of the indicator light

In the off state, press the main button until the indicator turns on, then press the main button to switch colors (red, yellow, green, blue, indigo, white, purple or turn off the indicator).

Tightening adjustment

Turn the ring on the cap clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust the intake air. The easiest tightening is achieved when the marks on the ring and the body are aligned.

Short circuit protection:

  • If a short circuit occurs before vaping begins, the indicator light will flash 5 times and the power will turn off.
  • If a short circuit occurs while vaping, the indicator light will flash 3 times.

Evaporator protection

The eGo AIO features a 15-second puff protection on timer. If the main button is pressed for more than 15 seconds, the indicator light will flash 10 times.

Low voltage protection

When the battery voltage is less than 3.3 V, the indicator light flashes 40 times and the device turns off. The low voltage protection will be unlocked when the device is charged.

Low/high resistance protection

  • When the vaporizer resistance is more than 5 ohms, the indicator light flashes slowly when the main button is pressed.
  • If the resistance is less than 0.3 ohm, the indicator light flashes 5 times quickly, which indicates that the voltage is too low or a short circuit is likely.

Remaining battery display function

The indicator flashes slowly or stays on when the battery charge is high. Rapid flashing of the indicator light indicates low battery. When charging or connecting the USB cable, the indicator lights red and turns off when charging is complete.

Warnings and Precautions

Standard e-cigarette vaporizers are the forerunners of the modern atomizer systems (clearomizers, cartomizers, tanks, giantomizers, etc.) used in ECs today. Therefore, knowing their device will help you more easily navigate the various new products on the market for vaping.

Replacement vaporizers for electronic cigarettes work on the principle of heating a liquid and transforming it into a vapor state. This is what the smoker inhales. If we describe the evaporator in ordinary words, then this is a steel cylindrical flask. Inside the flask is a ceramic cup with a built-in evaporation system.

The vaporizer for electronic cigarettes has the following structure: parts of the wick wrapped in a spiral, plus the contacts of the spiral. These contacts permeate various devices and eventually connect to the battery.

How to increase the service life

Regardless of the design features and intensity of operation, the electronic evaporator fails sooner or later. Over time, even high-quality replacement evaporators lose their original aroma transfer and vaporization properties. This is affected not only by the wear of parts, but also by a large amount of soot on the spiral. This is the main factor leading to the fact that both individual elements and the entire device begin to work worse.

The main component that creates carbon deposits are flavorings. That is why people who use unflavoured liquids have almost no such problems. Quite naturally, the question arises: how to remove carbon deposits from the coil of an electronic cigarette?

Please note that the electronic evaporator, like the liquid, is a consumable. It is quite possible to solve the problem with soot and improve the operation of the evaporator with your own hands. However, these actions are at your own peril and risk, since replaceable evaporators of an electronic cigarette may not withstand your manipulations and completely fail.

To clean the evaporators or not, it's up to you. At the same time, do not forget that manufacturers remove the warranty on the electronic cigarette vaporizer if at least one cleaning has been carried out.

Cleaning order

To make replacement evaporators last longer, you can periodically clean the wick. This will remove carbon deposits from its surface. We offer you step by step instructions:

  1. Disconnect the electronic cigarette vaporizer from the cartridge and battery.
  2. Wash it under a gentle stream of warm water.
  3. Blow through the side of the cartridge to remove any remaining liquid and carbon deposits.
  4. Do steps 2 and 3 twice.
  5. Dry the element thoroughly with a non-hot hair dryer, on the radiator, on the blinds of the air conditioner.
  6. Plug the part back into the electronic cigarette. Add a few drops of liquid to it, wait a couple of minutes for it to moisten the wick. This is important, because after our actions, the electronic evaporator will be completely dry, and the wick will immediately burn when voltage is applied from the battery.
  7. Replaceable cigarette vaporizers are ready for use.

If you carry out these manipulations at least once every 2 weeks, then the electronic evaporator will work much longer. At the same time, you will not allow the appearance of soot on the wick.
