Vitiligo what kind of disease and how. Vitiligo: what is this disease and how can you get rid of it? excluded from the diet

Vitiligo is considered one of the most understudied and difficult to treat diseases. It is expressed in the form of depigmentation - white spots on the skin, devoid of melanin. The disease is not dangerous, the patient experiences psychological discomfort due to an aesthetic defect.

Vitiligo - what is this disease? The first notes about him appeared in ancient Indian manuscripts of 1440 BC. e. According to WHO statistics, the disease occurs in 1-8.2% of people from all over the world. More than half of the cases are in women. Vitiligo usually occurs before the age of 20, but it also occurs in adulthood. Most often, patients experience the disease in the spring and summer.

Vitiligo (vitiligo), (dog, leukopathy, piebald skin) is a multifactorial skin disease belonging to the group of chronic dyschromia. This pathological change coloration of the skin, manifested in the form of white spots on the skin, hair and retina. The name comes from the Latin "vitium" and "igo", which means "vicious disease". The disease occurs due to a decrease in activity or loss functional activities melanocytes - pigment cells.

There is a dermatological quality of life index, which shows the degree of influence of an aesthetic defect on the quality of life. The indicator for vitiligo is 4.95, which is much worse than for psoriasis, acne, dermatitis. Therefore, the socio-psychological state is the only, but serious, complaint of patients.

Symptoms

Vitiligo appears as depigmented white patches on the skin that tend to grow peripherally and coalesce due to the destruction of melanocytes. Around the milky-white foci there is a small area with increased pigmentation. Most often, spots are localized on open areas of the body:

  • arms and legs;
  • face and neck;
  • folds in the area of the external genitalia and anus.

The onset of the disease is characterized by the appearance of slightly pinkish or milky spots.. The spots tend to become more noticeable, to increase. There are single, multiple spots that can connect. Size - from a small spot to depigmentation, occupying more than half of the body.

They can be symmetrical and unilateral, sometimes localized along the nerve trunks. There are cases of a universal lesion, when vitiligo covers almost the entire surface of the body - this is an extreme degree of development of the disease.

The affected areas are painless. Sometimes there may be a feeling of slight itching, tingling, goosebumps. Some of the spots may spontaneously disappear.

In the area of localization of foci of vitiligo, the following signs are observed:

  • failure in the process of sweating and sebum secretion;
  • musculo-hairy and vasomotor reflex (lack of reaction in the form of "goosebumps" to cold and other irritants);
  • solar dermatitis;
  • alopecia nest form;
  • psoriasis;
  • scleroderma;
  • choreoretinitis (inflammation of the back of the eye, retina);
  • graying or lightening of the hairline in the affected areas;
  • lichen planus;
  • chronic diseases of the digestive system;
  • decreased liver function in resisting toxins.

Exists clinical classification vitiligo, which distinguishes three types of the disease:

  1. Localized. The spots are concentrated in certain places. With focal vitiligo, spots occupy 1 or 2 areas; with segmental vitiligo, they are located on the lines of nerves and their plexuses. In the mucous form of vitiligo, depigmentation is localized only on the mucous membranes.
  2. Generalized. The spots are located all over the body. Acrofacial type of vitiligo is characterized by the location of spots on the limbs and face. The vulgar type is expressed in a random scatter of spots over the body. Mixed vitiligo includes both of these types.
  3. Universal. Over 80% of the body is depigmented.

The modern classification of vitiligo divides the disease into several types:

  1. Non-segmental vitiligo (NSV). The affected area goes beyond the outlines of one segment. It is characterized by a symmetrical bilateral arrangement. Most often occurs in autoimmune diseases.
  2. Segmental vitiligo (SV). The affected area does not exceed the limits of one segment. It is characterized by a one-sided arrangement. Associated with sympathetic disorders nervous system.
  3. Mixed type combines NSV and SV.
  4. Unclassified type.

Based on this classification and characteristic features diseases, treatments are being developed.

Varieties of vitiligo according to the nature of the spots:

  • blue is characterized by a bluish tint of spots;
  • inflamed is accompanied by inflammation and elevation of the border of spots;
  • tricolor - between healthy skin and the spot there is a space of intermediate tone;
  • four-color includes tri-color with the addition of an area of strong pigmentation around the spot.

Causes

In vitiligo, the causes are not known exactly, and treatment often does not give a full result. Most often, the disease persists for life. Rarely, self-healing occurs. Up to 10 years, the disease manifests itself very rarely.

Presumably, the occurrence of the disease is associated with the following factors:

  1. Neuroendocrine disorders (thyroid gland, adrenal glands, sex glands, pituitary gland).
  2. Mental illness.
  3. Problems with the autonomic nervous system (the tone of the sympathetic part prevails over the tone of the parasympathetic).
  4. Autoimmune diseases.
  5. Periods of hormonal changes in women (pregnancy, menopause).
  6. Worm infestation leads to malfunction of the endocrine glands and copper deficiency.
  7. Imbalance of vitamins, micro and macro elements (copper, iron, zinc). Deficiency of potassium, manganese, sodium in women.
  8. Influence of ultraviolet.
  9. Recent injuries, mechanical impact on the skin of a permanent nature (friction, pressure).
  10. Skin contact with certain types of synthetic fabrics.
  11. Hereditary predisposition remains at the stage of speculation, as it has not yet been proven.

Vitiligo - hereditary or acquired disease? This question has not yet been fully elucidated. According to studies, a certain combination of genes can provoke the manifestation of vitiligo in members of the same family. The risk is between 15 and 40%. However, the symptoms of the disease may not manifest for life if there are no risk factors.

Vitiligo is not observed in newborns, they have only a predisposition to the disease. The provoking factor is the violation of the hormonal background of the mother during pregnancy. Symptoms may appear after the child's 9 years of age. In newborns, whitish spots most often occur due to psoriasis, lichen, and allergies.

Vitiligo is not transmitted from person to person, as the disease is not contagious.

Vitiligo does not pose a threat to human life, but indicates serious disorders in the body. If one or more spots appear, you should visit a dermatologist. Before treating vitiligo, a specialist establishes a diagnosis based on an examination and collection of materials.

Without taking action, the risk of further progression of the disease increases. Vitiligo requires complex treatment, as it is caused by many factors.

How can you get rid of the disease? Therapy methods:

  1. PUV therapy - ultraviolet irradiation of the affected areas. At the same time, photosensitizing agents (Beroxan, Pserolen) are prescribed to increase the sensitivity of melanocytes to ultraviolet radiation. It is used in the generalized form of the disease.
  2. Vitamin intake: A, B1, C, B6, E. Replenishment of deficiency folic acid and trace elements: copper sulfate 0.5-1%, zinc oxide, sulfur, iron.
  3. Reception of immunomodulators: Levamisole, Cyclophosphamide, Polyoxidonium, Isoprinosine.
  4. Reception of hepaprotectors: Essentiale, Karsila, Phosphoglyph.
  5. Reception of digestive enzymes: Creon, Pancreatin, Polyoxidonium, Mezim Forte.
  6. A diet that includes seafood, cod liver, tomatoes, apples, rice, corn and other foods.

To suppress autoimmune processes, treatment with glucocorticoids is carried out. Therapy depends on the form of vitiligo:

  1. With a localized form, ointments are used: Esperon, Triacort, Fluorocort, Hydrocortisone Butyrate. If after 3 months no changes in the patient's condition are observed, then stronger ointments are used: Elocom, Kutiveit, Dermovate and others. These ointments can only be used for about 8 weeks, then a break of 1 to 4 months is necessary.
  2. In the generalized form of vitiligo, drugs are used in the form of tablets: Triamcinolone, Prednidozolone, Dexamethasone. Breaks are required between courses. In parallel, pulse therapy is carried out to reduce the negative side effects glucocorticoids.

Psoriasis remedies Elidel and Protopic can help with vitiligo. When applied externally, drugs help relieve inflammation, suppress T-lymphocytes and slow down the body's immune response.

New treatments:

  1. laser therapy. Laser exposure inhibits the activity of damaging T-lymphocytes, which prevents the destruction of melanocytes. After a course of 3-6 sessions, the area of spots along the periphery is reduced, pigmentation inside the spot is restored. The method helps well with segmental, focal and vulgar vitiligo.
  2. Skin whitening. To even out the tone, injections of Monobenzone, Elokvin, Hydroquinone are used. Treatment is required to be carried out regularly, so you should familiarize yourself with contraindications and side effects.
  3. Plasmolifting. The patient's autoplasma is injected into depigmented areas, which stimulates melanocytes.
  4. Surgical method. The method of melanocytic transplantation is the transfer of a patient's melanocytes from healthy areas of the skin to vitiligo foci. Used for large lesions. Possible rejection and suppuration of the transplanted area.

During the treatment process, vitiligo spots have to be masked. Persistent tonal means are used. For a longer-term result, a permanent tattoo is done. Self-tanning also helps to even out skin tone.

Vitiligo spots can be stained with green peel juice walnut. The peel, crushed with a blender, is left for 2 hours until it turns brown. The squeezed juice is moistened with a cotton swab and stained. The product does not stain clothes.

Sunbathing with vitiligo is not contraindicated, but you need to take into account the lack of a protective reaction in areas of depigmentation. It is necessary to use strong sunscreen and sunbathe only in the morning and evening.

It is impossible to get rid of vitiligo forever without eliminating concomitant diseases. Sometimes treatment is successful, but often you can only reduce the symptoms. Modern methods treatments help make the spots less noticeable.

One of the most unexplored diseases that are very difficult to treat is Vitiligo. It is represented by white spots that occur on the skin of people at different ages. White spots are the result of the absence of melanin (pigment) in the skin layers. This article will tell you in detail what are the symptoms, causes and methods of treating folk remedies at home for vitiligo in children and adults, show photos of patients and give useful tips.
vitiligo disease causes

Features of the disease

Vitiligo is found in different countries. The most unpleasant thing is that this disease has become increasingly common in people of all ages. The reason for this wide prevalence has not been determined.

Most often, women go to the hospital, as well as young people whose age is less than 20 years. The disease brings inconvenience to about 1% of the world's population.

Doctors believe that this pathology does not pose a danger to health. At the same time, white spots indicate the presence in the body of any serious violations. Also, people are concerned about the aesthetic issue. The disease manifests itself in the form of white spots, which are an unpleasant cosmetic defect.

Vitiligo is a poorly understood dermatological disease. It does not cause specific unpleasant sensations, discomfort, but the patient is guaranteed psychological and aesthetic problems.

The pathology under consideration was included in the group of "skin dyschromia" (dyschromia cutis). Translating from the Greek violation of skin pigmentation: "dys" - difficulty, dysfunction, "chroma" - color, color.

In the normal state, skin color is provided by such pigments:

  • Carotene (yellow);
  • Melanin (brown);
  • Recovered hemoglobin (blue);
  • Hemoglobin oxygenated (red).

Influences color change skin. The disease in question (vitiligo) is also popularly called “white spot disease”, “dog”, “leukopathy”, “piebald skin”. Translated from Latin, vitiligo means flaw, defect. This disease is considered to be an acquired primary skin dyschromia. But a third of cases are genetically transmitted.

This video tells about what vitiligo is:

Vitiligo stages

Doctors distinguish 4 stages in vitiligo:

  • I. Initial. It is characterized by the formation of a single spot on the skin. Depending on the characteristics of its development, this stage flows into one of the following.
  • II. Stationary. The patient has only one spot, which does not grow for a long period, it is in a stable condition. Additional neoplasms do not appear on the epithelium of the patient.
  • III. Repigmentation. It is characteristic of those cases when depigmentation was provoked by therapeutic measures, taking medicines. This stage is very rare.
  • IV. Progressive. It is characterized by an increase in the number, size of white spots for several months (2 - 3). Progression can occur slowly (new spots appear very slowly around the old formation), lightning fast (the number of spots throughout the body increases rapidly. In just a week, many new white spots appear).

Forms

Given such a feature as localization, the nature of distribution, in clinical practice It is customary to distinguish 3 forms of the disease:

  1. Focal. Spots are formed on different parts of the body, in foci.
  2. generalized. White spots appear all over the body.
  3. Universal. Depigmentation is observed on almost the entire epidermis.

Focal has 3 varieties:

  • Focal. The presence in one focus of one, several spots.
  • Segmental. White spots are grouped in the area of the plexus of nerves or localized in their direction.
  • Mucous. Spots are formed only on the mucous membranes.

The generalized form also has its own varieties:

  • Acrofascial. There is a lesion of the epithelium on the hands, feet, face.
  • vulgar. Spots randomly cover the epidermis of the entire body.
  • mixed. It is characterized by a mixture of individual varieties, for example, vulgar + acrofascial, segmental + vulgar, acrofascial + segmental.

Dermatologists have identified 2 types of the disease (A, B):

  • And "non-segmental". It is characterized by the absence of a violation of the sympathetic nervous system. In such cases, the disease in question is associated with autoimmune diseases.
  • In "segmental". Violation of pigmentation is localized in the direction of the nerves, their plexuses. It is associated with a violation of the sympathetic nervous system.

Causes

IN rare cases there is an influence of the genetic factor on the occurrence of vitiligo. But this disease is not congenital. Its occurrence depends on the influence of certain factors (external, internal). Specialists noted an increase in cases of the disease during periods of increased solar activity (summer, spring).

The disease develops in the presence of such factors:

  • Genetic. The relationship between genetics and disease has been experimentally proven. R. Spitz (a scientist working in the state of Colorado) confirmed the presence of a family predisposition to the occurrence of this pathology. Those with brown eyes are more at risk of developing vitiligo.
  • The presence of autoimmune failures. When immune function is impaired, healthy cells of the body are affected by antibodies. These conclusions were made by doctors who, in practice, noticed that patients suffering from skin lesions often have a concomitant disease (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid dysfunction).
  • Taking medications.
  • Violation of the functioning of the endocrine gland. Malfunctions in the work of this gland, a change in the level of hormones can cause the development of vitiligo.
  • Violation of the ovaries, adrenal glands, pancreas, pituitary gland.
  • Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Due to impaired absorption of enzymes in diseases such as malabsorption, dysbacteriosis, the necessary nutrients (magnesium, copper, zinc, manganese) enter the skin in insufficient quantities. Without these nutrients, melanocytes ( special cages) cannot produce enough melanin for pigmentation.
  • Violation of the trophism of the epithelium. Typically, trophic disorders are the result of trauma to the epithelium (microtrauma, burns, scars).
  • Tyrosinase enzyme deficiency.
  • The action of chemicals. The skin can be affected by poor quality cosmetical tools, formaldehyde, phenol.
  • Violation of the functioning of the autonomic nervous system.

Vitiligo occurs when the body is weakened by injuries, infections, intoxication.

Symptoms

The appearance of vitiligo is evidenced by the formation of white spots, perhaps initially only one such spot will appear. The depigmented spot has a milky white color, its size is small (diameter 0.2 - 0.3 cm). Over time, such a spot grows, around it appear similar neoplasms. Their shape can be oval, round, the boundaries of the depigmented area are clearly defined.

Scales do not form over white spots, the spot does not rise above the pigmented skin, it is located on a par with it. On the edge of the spot / focus of spots, an accumulation of pigment is visible. It turns out. That the spot is clearly outlined by a dark ring on the border with a healthy area of the epidermis. Blotches of intense pigmentation can even be found inside the depigmented area.

From the primary spots, which are small in size, large foci are formed over time, which have an irregular shape. The edges of such a focus are also endowed with enhanced pigmentation.

Pigmentation often affects open areas of the body (neck, hands, feet, face, elbows, fingers, legs. Less commonly, the disease is localized in the near-anal region, groin area, on the scalp). In men, spots can form in the area of the mustache, beard. Merging into foci, depigmented spots can spread to the entire abdomen, buttocks, and back.

The spread of the focus of the disease to the whole body is very rare.

Hair in the area of depigmentation also loses color, becomes discolored. There was a violation of the functioning of the sweat glands. In the sun, the diseased areas do not sunbathe, but the area with hyperpigmentation surrounding the spot becomes darker, more saturated.

Vitiligo is sometimes accompanied by the following symptoms:

  • lichen planus;
  • alopecia nest form;
  • psoriasis;
  • chorioretinitis;
  • diseases of the gastrointestinal tract with a chronic course.

Vitiligo symptoms

Diagnostics

For an accurate diagnosis, you need differential diagnosis. This disease is differentiated from the following:

  • pityriasis versicolor;
  • idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis;
  • partial albinism;
  • chemical, true, post-inflammatory leukoderma;
  • leprosy;
  • multi-colored lichen.

The patient needs to undergo a comprehensive examination. It includes many studies:

  • general blood analysis;
  • examination of the epithelium with a Wood's lamp;
  • examination with a video dermatoscope;
  • to detect the complete / partial absence of melanocytes;
  • blood for the Wasserman reaction.

Knowing the causes of vitiligo disease, consider its treatment.

Treatment

Vitiligo is considered an intractable disease. Until now, scientists have not been able to pinpoint the cause of depigmentation. Also, the mechanism of the development of the disease is not fully understood. In very rare cases, the disease goes away on its own, without any therapeutic measures. Although modern medicine has given people the opportunity to use various medical therapeutic methods, it is possible to cure the disease completely only in some cases.

Therapeutic therapy is prescribed by the doctor after the examination. Treatment is selected taking into account such features:

  • age;
  • somatic status;
  • stage of development of the disease;
  • the size of the affected area;
  • spot localization.

The video below will talk about the treatment of vitiligo:

Therapeutic way

Given the progress in the field of medicine, the treatment of vitiligo began to be performed by various methods, among them we highlight:

  • laser therapy;
  • Phytotherapy.
  • Macro-, microelement therapy.
  • Therapy with glucocorticosteroids.
  • Whitening of the epithelium;
  • The use of the drug "Melagenin plus".

Specialists are busy developing a vaccine, the action of which is to eliminate the autoimmune reaction that often provokes the development of the disease.

According to medical practice, the maximum effect brings complex treatment. In this case, non-surgical methods of therapy are combined with surgical ones. Stopping the pathological process depends on the accuracy in detecting the factor (external, internal) that provoked the development of the disease.

In the treatment of vitiligo, UVB therapy is also used. The affected areas of the epidermis are exposed to ultraviolet radiation. For the best effect, it is worth using waves whose length is 310 nm. Narrow wave therapy is considered more effective than exposure to type A rays.

In a medical way

For the treatment of vitiligo, the following drugs are used:

  • "Thiamin".
  • "Riboflavin".
  • "Vitamin C".
  • Vitamins C, E, B 12.
  • "Melagenin".
  • VITISKIN Gel.
  • Vitasan.
  • "Ammifurin".

Operation

Surgical treatment, which involves melanocytic transplantation, autotransplantation. But doctors still do not guarantee a lasting, long-term effect from the operation.

We will deliberately not describe how to treat the skin disease vitiligo in children and adults with folk remedies, since there is no sense in such treatment.

Disease prevention

Specialists did not find certain preventive measures. But doctors recommend:

  • less time to stay;
  • carry out hardening procedures;
  • take vitamins.

Complications

One of the significant complications is the formation of sun due to the loss of the skin's protective function.

Forecast

For those suffering from this disease, the prognosis will certainly seem unpleasant. Vitiligo is chronic.

It is almost impossible to cure it. Doctors can only stop the development of the disease.

In the video below, the girl shares her ways of treating vitiligo:

Sometimes you can meet people in whom areas of normally colored skin alternate with bizarre islands of pale skin, devoid of any pigment. It is then that it becomes clear how pale, in the literal sense of the word, people devoid of melanin would look.

  • This disease is called "pesyu", or "piebald skin". In medicine, the condition has received a beautiful name - vitiligo, or leukoderma.

Of course, the popular name for piebald skin eloquently indicates that this condition has something to compare with. Piebald and spotted coloration of the skin and coat is found in the animal kingdom all the time.

What are, for example, horses of "apple color", or Dalmatian dogs. It seems that these dogs were specially sprayed with ink spots. In humans, everything looks different, and if similar areas devoid of pigment appear on a person’s skin, then we can talk about a violation of melanin metabolism.

Vitiligo - what is it? + photo

vitiligo disease photo age spots

Vitiligo is a metabolic disorder of the skin pigment melanin, which is referred to as focal hypopigmentation. There are also states of hyperpigmentation, for example, the well-known ordinary freckles, but we will talk about them next time.

The limiting variant of hypopigmentation is the complete absence of melanin. This condition is called albinism. We will talk about this extremely interesting phenomenon later.

Why does vitiligo occur? Before talking about the reasons, you need to recall what determines the color of the skin in a person.

Why are we "colored"?

In the depths of our skin there are special cells - melanocytes. In their organelles, namely the bodies - melanosomes, melanin is synthesized. For its appearance, the amino acid tyrosine is needed, and this process is catalyzed by the enzyme tyrosinase.

Copper is an active part of this enzyme. This is how the “basic” process of melanin formation proceeds, for example, in winter. In summer, the process is activated under the influence of ultraviolet rays.

It is clear why this happens: the shorter the wavelength, the more energy the quanta of electromagnetic radiation have. The near ultraviolet region is the last of the high-energy regions that is useful for humans, and even then in reasonable quantities. Next comes the hard ultraviolet, the deadly X-ray and gamma radiation.

The process of melanin formation occurs in several stages, through the synthesis of promelanin. The melanocytes themselves are nothing more than mature melanoblasts. As soon as tyrosinase activity increases in a young pigment cell, the number of melanosomes in it increases and it begins to produce melanin.

But there are cases, for example, in albinos, that there are many melanosomes in the cell, but the production of melanin does not begin. In the case of vitiligo, such a failure in the process of melanin synthesis occurs spontaneously. Why is this happening?

Causes of Vitiligo

vitiligo photo in a child (a violation of the color of the eyelashes in the spot area is visible)

Dermatologists around the world are trying to understand the cause of this disease. Particular cases that lead to this process have been studied, but it has not yet been possible to prove it rigorously and “sort it all out”.

It is known for certain that there is a genetic autosomal recessive factor and vitiligo can be inherited because a defect in tyrosinase is inherited. This proves the fact that people with gray or blue eyes Vitiligo is less commonly affected than brown-eyed.

Often, patients have various hormonal, hypothalamic-pituitary disorders, changes in the functioning of the adrenal glands and thyroid diseases. In addition to various, multiple endocrinopathies, the causes of vitiligo, or leukoderma (the Latin name for the disease) can be:

  • Severe immune disorders that occur with autoimmune and systemic diseases, or collagenoses ( rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, scleroderma);
  • Local, trophic causes. In the event that the skin is damaged, and there are traces of burns on it, a cicatricial process occurs, then the chances of discoloration in these areas are much higher, since intradermal immune inflammation is triggered, which can also affect melanocytes;
  • Vitiligo can develop as a result of certain medications;
  • endogenous intoxication. Most often, vitiligo can appear due to stagnation of bile, which occurs with dyskinesia, as well as with severe intestinal autointoxication, which develops with habitual constipation;

Finally, vitiligo may be caused by malabsorption of nutrients in various departments intestines. Thus, an increased frequency of vitiligo occurs in patients with Whipple's disease, pernicious anemia (cyanocobalamin deficiency).

Finally, the last but cosmetically important cause is contact vitiligo. It appears when certain chemicals are applied to the skin.

Surprisingly, whitening products such as hydrogen peroxide and chlorine are hardly to blame. Most often, cosmetics are to blame. In the event that vitiligo occurs on the face, and even made “with your own hands”, this situation can lead to stress and severe depression, which can contribute to the emergence of new foci of the disease. How does the process of vitiligo begin?

The initial stage of vitiligo, the first signs

the initial stage of vitiligo photo - the first spot

The initial stage of vitiligo, most often, occurs imperceptibly. In the event that a person sees a patch of skin that has appeared, devoid of pigment, then he may not feel anything.

In rare cases, this area of the skin may develop a spot with signs of inflammation, such as redness and mild discomfort, along with or just before the discoloration appears. This spot is called.

After the appearance of a spot, it begins to grow, and if several spots have appeared, then they have a certain tendency to merge. With leukoderma, the spots have clear edges, often of an irregular configuration.

Signs of vitiligo include discoloration of the hair that has fallen into the spot area. Rarely do they retain their color. Also, with vitiligo, spots can occur on symmetrical areas of the skin.

A distinctive feature of spots devoid of pigment is acute intolerance to ultraviolet radiation. Those who believe that exposure to the sun helps to cure these anomalies are mistaken: the pigment is restored very rarely. Most often, insolation leads to the formation of inflammatory erythema, since skin without melanin becomes defenseless to sources of ultraviolet radiation.

  • Sometimes, in the middle of the pale area, “as luck would have it”, there are islands with pigment, and even excessive, that is, hyperpigmentation is formed.

If the spots merge, then they can capture vast areas, and even cover most of the body. In this case, the person acquires the very “piebald look”.

Most often, areas of leukoderma occur on the buttocks, abdomen, and back. With vitiligo, neither skin atrophy nor scarring occurs, there is no peeling. In a word, this is a pure violation of pigmentation, "without consequences" for the skin.

Stage classification

Dermatologists distinguish four stages of vitiligo: onset, progression, plateau, and repigmentation.

  1. Initial stage. The first signs of vitiligo are the appearance of a single first spot. It can both develop and disappear immediately;
  2. progression. The time limit is 3 months. If during this time the spot increases significantly, new ones appear, a merger occurs, then they speak of progression;
  3. Plateau period, or stationary stage. The existing spot (spots) are in a “dormant” state for a long time, but do not decrease;
  4. Repigmentation. The most "long-awaited" stage. The stain disappears. Unfortunately, most often this happens when one, and “random” spot appears, for example, with contact origin. If "marbling" is located throughout the body, then in almost 100% of cases, a spontaneous and complete return of pigmentation is impossible.

Some myths about vitiligo

It should be said that the following is reliably established:

  • Vitiligo is non-contagious and harmless to others, it is not transmitted in any way: from contact to sexual. To talk about the "contagiousness" of vitiligo is as ridiculous as about the "contagiousness" of myopia, hearing loss or hypertension;
  • The only way vitiligo can be transmitted is by inheritance, and even then, the maximum probability is 40%, no more;
  • The true danger of vitiligo for its carrier is that it is a symptom of serious malfunctions in the body (except for the hereditary variant).

Vitiligo in children, features

Sometimes vitiligo starts in childhood. With a quick and aggressive onset, this process often accompanies a person throughout his life. To avoid this, you need to know that the predisposition to the disease, which is inherited, turns into a disease if the resolving factors begin to act.

These include:

  • Pronounced ultraviolet insolation;
  • Drug aggression (the child is ill for a long time and is seriously ill, receives a lot of antibiotics);
  • stress;
  • local skin processes. Children often have abrasions, wounds, burns.

In the event that parents have vitiligo, then it is necessary to protect the child as much as possible from these factors that traumatize the skin.

In conclusion, it must be said that even with congenital vitiligo, it begins to appear in the younger school age. In the event that any white spots are seen on the skin of a newborn baby, or a young child, then this is not vitiligo, but other skin diseases or allergic manifestations.

Getting rid of vitiligo is difficult. There are cases of spontaneous healing, but this is very rare, especially with extensive spots. A visit to a dermatologist is required. modern medicine has various means, including ultraviolet irradiation with a special wavelength, laser therapy.

In special cases, if the patient persists, options for bleaching the adjacent skin can even be used to even out the tone and smooth out the shade transitions. Even surgical methods of skin transplantation (melanotransplantation) are used. But all these methods are determined by the doctor.

How to treat vitiligo at home?

1) At home, you can apply wiping the skin weak solution copper sulphate, since the tyrosinase enzyme is activated by copper salts.

2) To suppress autoimmune inflammation in the skin, various ointments containing corticosteroid hormones are used. But this can only be used in the progression stage, and as directed by a doctor. After all, even local use of hormones can lead to systemic effects.

  • The most commonly used are "Elocom", "Dermovate", "Beloderm".

3) In some cases, Elidel, Protopic help with vitiligo. They are new anti-inflammatory drugs that reduce the cellular response of T-lymphocytes, inhibit the synthesis of interleukins - inflammatory mediators, as well as other components of inflammation.

In conclusion, it should be noted that in the event of the appearance of vitiligo, you should immediately go to a dermatologist. In the event that the diagnosis is confirmed, then you need to fully undergo an examination, and you need to start with a doctor - an endocrinologist and a rheumatologist, then check the liver and gastrointestinal tract. If any pathology is found, and will be treated in a timely mannerthere is a good chance that vitiligo will be cured in the bud.

Causes of vitiligo, what is this disease

From conversations with doctors
Vitiligo- this is one of the most complex, unexplored and difficult to treat diseases, the causes of which are still a lot of controversy. It can occur at any age, but most often between 10 and 30 years of age. The disease is characterized by the disappearance of melanin pigment in some areas of the skin and the appearance of white spots.

Here are some commonly recognized causes of vitiligo:

  1. heredity,
  2. hormonal disorders,
  3. stress,
  4. injury,
  5. infection,
  6. diseases of the internal organs,
  7. sunburn.

main cause of vitiligo- neuro-endocrine disorders. The disease belongs to the group of autoimmune diseases associated with infectious foci in the nasopharynx, gastrointestinal tract, urinary and gallbladder. Autoimmune diseases are associated with a violation of immunity with a hereditary predisposition. In this case the immune system recognizes the pigment cells of its body as foreign antibodies.

The main symptom is the appearance of white pigment spots on the skin, having clear contours, often the spots are arranged symmetrically. White spots on the skin appear most often on open areas of the body - the face, neck, arms, legs. Often, depigmented areas appear on the eyelids, near the mouth, in the area of \u200b\u200bthe joints of the fingers. Over time, they can increase and merge, or they can remain the same size for a long time, not progressing. Sometimes the spots disappear on their own, and sometimes they increase at a high rate.
Another symptom of vitiligo: in the affected areas, fat and sweating decrease. The hair in the lesions is preserved, but they become completely white.
The essence of vitiligo disease is that there is a delay in the process of converting the amino acid tyrosine into the pigment melanin, which gives the skin its normal color. At the same time, the process of blocking the melanin-stimulating hormone in the skin by the antagonist hormone melatonin takes place. This hormone is produced by the pineal gland, the epiphysis of the brain.

Vitiligo treatment. Medications.

Since one of the causes of this disease is considered to be foci of infection in the body, it is first necessary to deal with them. To do this, you need to be examined by a therapist, an otolaryngologist, to be tested for worms, Giardia.
In the 50s of the last century, Professor A.I. Kartamyshev managed to successfully treat vitiligo with vitamins, sunbathing and arsenic in homeopathic doses. And Professor K. N. Suvorova noted good results by prescribing intramuscular injections of splenin and cryomassage with liquid nitrogen.
Vitiligo is, in fact, a cosmetic defect, this disease is in no way life-threatening. It is treated for a very long time and is not always effective. If spots on the skin have existed for a long time, then the main task is to stop the process. The easiest way to cure vitiligo in children.
If the spots are small, then they are simply masked with foundation. With extensive lesions, treatment is carried out with ultraviolet rays. In more complex cases, use hormonal ointments and sometimes resort to skin grafting. Sometimes immunomodulating agents are used.
In addition, official medicine treats stress arising from this disease with persen preparations (1 tablet per day for a month) or ordinary valerian.
Helps restore pigment to the skin vitamins B1, B12, as well as a nicotinic acid, which must be administered intramuscularly, starting with 10 ml, reducing the dose by 1 ml daily. Course - 8 days.

Must be checked once a year thyroid gland and adrenal glands, because often this disease is accompanied by disruption of the endocrine system.

Modern methods of treatment of vitiligo.

For the treatment of vitiligo, a technique based on the use of ultraviolet rays is used: the sun, quartz and PUVA therapy in combination with a photosensitizing tablet. PUVA therapy is allowed for patients at least 15 years old. Contraindications - oncology, pregnancy, cardiovascular diseases, diseases of the digestive, urinary, hematopoietic systems.

At one time, the drug from the placenta, melagenin, was popular, now it is called placendex. The course of treatment of vitiligo with this medicine takes at least 8 months.
Of the photosensitizing agents in the summer in the morning, gelarium is recommended in a dragee based on St. John's wort extract. It is necessary to take this medicine during meals, without chewing and drinking water. It can be given to children from the age of 12.

by the most effective way vitiligo treatment it is considered the intake of furocoumarins of plant origin (beroxan, psoralen, ammifurin) with ultraviolet irradiation. Furocoumarins enhance the effects of ultraviolet radiation. These drugs are available in the form of tablets, ointments, alcohol solutions and are used under the strict supervision of a physician. This treatment includes many courses with short breaks. Furocoumarins enhance the effects of ultraviolet radiation. St. John's wort has the same property.

Gives good results cryomassage 2-3 times a week. A course of at least 20 procedures.

Recently, the effect of the use splenin immunomodulator, which, if not cured, then stops the process of formation of new spots. Recently, antihomotoxic drugs appeared in Russia in tablets and drops - these are Galium-Hel, Gormel S. They are prescribed by a dermatologist.

No less effective than PUVA therapy, helium-neon lasers. Laser therapy has fewer contraindications and reduces the treatment time.

On the early stage diseases doctors advise to apply vitiligo gel vitix. This new drug, treatment with this medicine gives very good results - it quickly helps to get rid of the signs of vitiligo. Apply this gel 2 times a day to the affected areas - in the morning and in the evening with warm fingers, without rubbing. The course of treatment is 1-6 months.

Consider best recipes according to the reviews of the readers of the newspaper "Bulletin of Healthy Lifestyle", which helped to cure vitiligo.

    You can use the following folk remedies for the treatment of vitiligo:
  • Drink infusion of St. John's wort in the morning, especially from spring to autumn. St. John's wort enhances the effects of ultraviolet radiation, as well as furocoumarins.
  • Rub a concentrated decoction of St. John's wort, parsley juice, celery into the lesions.
  • Lubricate the affected areas with juices of yellow and red vegetables and fruits, do it on the face nourishing masks with the addition of persimmon, carrot juice, algae.
  • At home, for the treatment of vitiligo, it is useful to massage the skin with a piece of ice prepared in molds from St. John's wort. It combines two therapeutic effects at once - cryomassage and photosensitizing properties of St. John's wort.
  • The collection of herbs will help to strengthen the formation of melanin: St. John's wort - 3 parts, calendula, sage, chamomile - 2 parts each, plantain, nettle - 1 part each. 2 tbsp. l. collection brew 500 ml of boiling water, drink 0.5 cup 3 times a day. Combine the infusion with ultraviolet irradiation.
  • Grind 10 g of fresh aconite leaves with 100 ml of vinegar and 50 ml of vegetable oil. Rub into white spots on the skin.
  • In the south, you can rub the juice of young green walnuts.
  • The most popular and effective folk remedy for vitiligo is duckweed powder mixed with honey. From this mass, make balls of 2-3 grams and swallow 2 pieces in the morning and evening.
  • From the juice of celandine, make lotions on the affected skin.
  • Carrot juice, beet radish - in equal proportions. Drink 1/4 cup 2-3 times a day.

How to treat vitiligo folk remedies.

Consider some good home recipes for the treatment of this disease.

  • Radish seeds. Pour 0.5 g of radish seeds with 0.5 cups of boiling water, boil for 5 minutes, leave for 1 hour. Wipe white spots on the skin with this infusion several times a day.
  • Parsnip
    Dried parsnip flowers grind into powder, 2 tbsp. l. powder mixed with 100 g of lard, melt the mixture over low heat, bring to a boil, hold in a warm place, then heat again, strain. received healing ointment smear the skin with a thin layer 2 times a day.

    1 st. l. crushed parsnip leaves pour 1 cup boiling water, insist. Drink per day in 3 divided doses.

  • Infusion of herbs. Mix in equal proportions chamomile, calendula, sage, nettle, St. John's wort, oregano, string. 1 st. l. collection, pour 1 cup of boiling water, insist, strain, take 3 times a day for 1/3 cup 3 times a day 20 minutes before meals for two months. The same infusion can wipe the skin. This is a very effective folk remedy for the treatment of vitiligo.
  • Therapeutic baths. For one bath, take 2 tbsp. l. coniferous extract and 50 ml of valerian tincture. The course of treatment is 15 baths every other day.

Nutrition for vitiligo.

Copper is involved in the formation of the melanin pigment, so patients should eat food with a high content of copper (beef liver, peas, buckwheat, cheese, shrimp, nuts, rose hips, seaweed) or take copper-containing preparations (0.5-1% sulfate copper 5-10 drops 3 times a day with milk after meals).
It is desirable that the diet contains vegetables and fruits of red, yellow and orange color - carrots, tomatoes, tangerines, persimmons, oranges. In the morning it is useful to eat buckwheat porridge, as buckwheat has a photosensitizing property. The treatment will benefit from eating parsley, melon pulp, juice from parsnip roots or Jerusalem artichoke.

sunbathing

After taking photosensitizing drugs, St. John's wort and many other folk remedies, sunbathing is necessary so that damaged skin begins to accumulate melanin. When pigment blotches appear on white spots, it means that the healing process has begun. Increase the time of solar irradiation gradually, starting from 1 minute. It must be remembered that the skin affected by the disease is very sensitive to sunlight and burns easily, because there is no protective pigment in these areas. The most useful sun is morning, it does not burn, and ultraviolet rays stimulate the skin to produce melanin in the affected areas. In the bright sun, the skin should be covered with clothes or sunscreen so that there are no burns. White spots on the body should not be injured, rubbed with tight clothing. This makes them grow even more.

Decorative cosmetics and masks that even out skin tone

If you have given up trying to treat vitiligo with drugs or other methods, use decorative cosmetics. Where pigmentation is impaired, self-tanning can be applied. It does not protect from the sun, so you need to use sunscreen before going out.
I recommend a nourishing and rejuvenating mask that will change the color of the foci. Ingredients: seaweed fucus and marinide, bran with or without Beta-carotene, carrot juice, full-fat sour cream. Grind algae (fucus - in a coffee grinder, marinide tablets - by hand). On the mask, take 1 teaspoon of fucus, 3-4 marinide tablets, 1 teaspoon of bran, 1 tbsp. spoon carrot juice and sour cream. All this is mixed and heated, you can in a water bath. Apply to clean skin for 15-20 minutes, then rinse with warm water and rinse your face cold water. Do this mask 2-3 times a week. Course - 15 procedures.

St. John's wort washes away white spots on the skin

Treatment of vitiligo with St. John's wort at home

Vitiligo is a disease in which white patches appear on the skin. They do not cause physical pain, but exposure to direct sunlight can lead to severe burns.
Treatment of vitiligo disease is a rather lengthy process. Here are some recipes from my experience.
Pour 1 teaspoon of dry St. John's wort with a glass of boiling water (200 g) and leave for 30 minutes. Take daily 1 tbsp. spoon 3 times a day after meals. Take a week break after three weeks. Eight such cycles are usually sufficient for a cure.
St. John's wort oil will promote recovery, which is prepared as follows: pour finely chopped dry St. John's wort herb olive oil in a ratio of 1:10 and keep in a water bath for 3 hours. Then cool the oil, strain through a nylon stocking (gauze is not good) and pour into dark glass bottles.
The oil should be used simultaneously with the tincture. The usual method: we soak a gauze napkin folded in 2-3 layers with oil, apply it to the affected areas of the body and hold for 30-40 minutes. The course of treatment is 40 days.

Review. How to get rid of vitiligo quickly and permanently

A 22-year-old woman developed white spots on her skin due to a nervous shock. The spots were on the shoulders and on the back. Doctors immediately diagnosed - vitiligo. In the "Healthy Lifestyle" for 2003, I found an article "St. John's wort washes away spots on the skin" and immediately set to work. Prepared St. John's wort oil. Every day, the affected areas were smeared with this elixir, the girl waited 40 minutes, then went to the shower to wash off. Every day, to relieve stress from illness, I drank tea from soothing herbs. The entire treatment took 30 days. And, lo and behold, the spots on the body really washed off. Since then, 10 years have passed, there were no relapses, the woman got rid of vitiligo forever. ( folk method from the newspaper "Bulletin of healthy lifestyle" 2013, No. 14, p. 7)

Vitiligo treatment with duckweed at home.

The most famous folk remedy for vitiligo is duckweed. At home, the affected skin is smeared with juice, infusion or tincture, compresses are made. They drink an infusion (1 tablespoon of duckweed in a glass of boiling water - drink during the day in 3 doses, the course is 2-3 months). Or rub 1 tbsp. l. duckweed with 1 tbsp. l. honey is the daily norm for 3 prima (other sources say that balls weighing 1-2 g are made from a mixture of duckweed with honey and taken 1 ball 2-3 times a day). Prepare tincture: 1 tbsp. l. duckweed for 200 ml of vodka, drink 1 tsp. 3 times a day.
In summer, you can eat duckweed salad: put onion slices, 1 chopped egg on sliced boiled potatoes (100 g). Mix 30 g of washed duckweed with 50 g sauerkraut and put on top. Drizzle with sour cream. This salad will cure many diseases and purify the blood. (Advice from the newspaper "Bulletin of healthy lifestyle" 2009, No. 13, pp. 12-13. G.; healthy lifestyle 2005, No. 11, pp. 18-19, Teslyakov, therapist)

From vitiligo will help duckweed from clean reservoirs.

To prepare the duckweed, you need to choose a clean reservoir with a rocky or sandy bottom, otherwise the duckweed will smell like a swamp. You can grow duckweed in homemade ponds.
It is convenient to scoop it up with a colander and immediately spread it on burlap, sort it out from foreign debris. Rinse at home in running water, fold in cheesecloth and hang to let water drain. You need to collect two buckets of raw duckweed. Dry on fabric, stirring frequently. Rub the dried duckweed through a metal sieve. Mix the resulting powder with honey to make a tight "dough". Store in glass jar with polyethylene lid.
Can cook from duckweed tincture: fill the jar 1/3 with unmashed duckweed and pour vodka to the top. Insist in a dark place for 21-30 days. Children are better off mixture of duckweed with honey .
These two drugs are the best folk remedies for vitiligo. Unfortunately, few people know about this. In people with this disease, after a course of treatment with duckweed, a complete restoration of the color of the skin without relapse was observed. But that's not all. Both preparations from duckweed significantly and permanently improve the condition of patients with blood diseases. (Folk treatment from the newspaper "Bulletin of healthy lifestyle" 2003, No. 14, p. 13)

Several recommendations for the collection and use of duckweed for the treatment of vitiligo.
It is necessary to collect duckweed in the hottest time, when its roots are the longest. Spread napkins with duckweed and apply to white spots on the skin. In addition, drink duckweed tincture: 1 tsp, diluted with 20 ml of water, 2-3 times a day after meals. (Recipe from the newspaper "Bulletin of healthy lifestyle" 2005, No. 5)

Currently, a large number of chronic diseases are known that accompany a person throughout life. One of these is vitiligo.

What is vitiligo?

This chronic illness, which consists in the destruction of skin melanocytes. As a result, white spots of different sizes and irregular shapes form on the patient's skin.

The disease is asymptomatic and is more of a cosmetic defect, however, patients complain of psychological discomfort, depression and dissatisfaction with their own appearance.

When white spots appear on the skin, a sharp increase in their number, an increase in the area of discolored areas you need to contact a therapist, as well as a dermatologist. In some cases, you will need to be examined by an endocrinologist and an immunologist.

What causes vitiligo?

The cause of vitiligo can be a number of external and internal factors:

Vitiligo is mainly a disease of young people, often diagnosed in children and adolescents, rarely occurs in people over forty.

In children, the appearance of white spots on the skin may indicate a rare genetic disease, tumorous sclerosis. In this case, symptoms such as convulsions, epileptic seizures and mental retardation will appear.

Vitiligo develops as follows: under the influence of negative factors, both external and internal, cells that produce the hormone melanin are damaged. As a result, melanocytes stop producing pigment, resulting in discolored patches.

The development of the disease goes in several stages:

  1. On the initial stage , as a rule, one small spot appears, from a few millimeters to 2 centimeters in diameter, pinkish or beige. In the future, the spot grows, acquiring a milky white or ivory shade. Over time, the spots become larger, their size increases.
  2. Progressive stage- the primary spot increases in size, depigmented areas appear on other parts of the body. The spots may merge, the hair on the skin becomes discolored. The contour of the pigment along the edge of the bleached area is clearly visible.
  3. Stationary stage- with a long course of the disease, large spots of irregular shape, with a lacy edge, are clearly visible on the skin. Between the affected areas and areas with normal pigmentation lies a clear boundary. The spots do not peel off and do not protrude above the surface of the skin.
  4. repigmentation stage- In some cases, normal skin pigmentation may spontaneously revert. Areas of pigment appear predominantly around hair follicle, since they most often retain functioning melanocytes. Spots can disappear either completely or partially.

Symptoms

The disease proceeds almost asymptomatic, and does not have a clearly defined localization. Spots can occur on the face, body, limbs, palms and feet, genitals.

With the development of a defect on the scalp, the hair discolors not only the skin, but also the hair. Sometimes areas of increased pigmentation may appear inside the white spots, which have a dark brown color and a small diameter. In rare cases, gigantic spots develop, which can capture a large area of the body.

The appearance of spots is not accompanied by pain, however, skin devoid of pigment is more susceptible to damaging factors. environment and more in need of protection. On the affected areas of the skin, the sebaceous and sweat glands function worse, the skin suffers more from sunburn, although the tan does not appear on it.

Under the influence of sunlight, aggressive chemicals, mild inflammation can develop. About 10% of patients complain of itching, tingling and moderate peeling in the area of depigmentation.

Diagnostics

Diagnosis of vitiligo consists of the following activities:

  • Collection of anamnesis.
  • Taking a skin sample for a biopsy. At the cellular level, the cessation of melanin production is detected.
  • Differential diagnosis is carried out with diseases such as syphilis, white lichen, melanoma and albinism. Here you can read about.
  • If necessary, tests for biochemistry, thyroid hormones and corticosteroids are taken.

If metabolic disorders are detected, it is necessary to consult an endocrinologist.

Vitiligo treatment

Treatment of the disease depends on the form and nature of the lesions.

With a small number of spots, the following methods are used:
